Sean Condon claimed the first Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike race following a spectacular display on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. “It was a very confidence inspiring weekend for me. Besides the last race, everything fell into place. I won my first superbike race of the series and I’ll be heading into the next round with a boost of confidence. My body is feeling good after injuries from crashing earlier in the year. I actually injured my arm in qualifying on Friday and considering that I’m stoked to have come away with a win,” Sean Condon commented.
Sean unfortunately went down in turn three during the second race which subsequently ruled him out for the day. After experiencing the peak highs and lows of racing over the weekend, Sean is currently placed 6th overall in the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship aboard his Bikebiz Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.
Kawasaki Supported rider Matt Walters, made good progress on the Kawasaki Connection Ninja ZX-10R over the weekend. “I made a lot of ground on the front guys especially in race two which I was really happy about. I secured some better lap times so we are happy with the way things are going,” commented Matt. “We have a break leading into the next round at Queensland Raceway so I’m looking forward to doing some more testing on the bike and focusing on being fitter and faster on a track where horsepower counts.”
Privateer, Rick Olsen, rode the Kawasaki Connection Ninja ZX-6R to the top place on the podium in all three Swann Insurance Australasian Supersport races over the weekend. “The guys were riding pretty well this weekend so I’m happy with the result. It was a great day of racing for me and great for Kawasaki Connection. We all put in a lot of work and we were able to pull of these wins,” said Rick.
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R rider, Paul Young, of team SA Kawasaki BCperformance, managed to race in both the Supersport class and Kawasaki Insurances Ninja FX300 Cup. The decision to race in both classes payed off as Paul secured 2nd place overall in the Kawasaki Insurances Ninja FX300 Cup.
“Qualifying on the Ninja 300 went great, I managed to qualify first. We set up gearing in the qualifying race which was good for doing laps on my own but it wasn’t fit for racing elbow-to-elbow, so we’ve learnt a bit through the course of the weekend and it’s good to be dicing with riders who have a lot of talent,” commented Paul. “On the Ninja ZX-6R, we struggled with suspension at the beginning of the weekend but we got to the bottom of it in race two and we got some headway. I finally felt comfortable on the bike and I was catching the leading group, but I clipped the curb in turn 4 with a foot peg and went down which was a shame.”
Paul said, “Switching between bikes is only really challenging logistically when races are back to back and the only other thing to consider is having to adjust riding style in an instant. For example different gearing and speeds is also challenging but I’ve done it before and I’m kind of used to it, you just need to flick the switch in your head when you jump from one to the other.”
Jack Baker turned an average beginning to the weekend into promising results after he crashed his Crazy Dog’s Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R during qualifying on Friday. Jack suffered very minor injuries to his back after the crash and he was able to persist on his Crazy Dog’s practice bike to place 15th overall for 3rd round of the Swann Insurance Australasian Supersport Championship.
“I’m really happy with the first race where I came from 16th to finish 10th. In the second race I actually finished 8th but I jumped the start so I was penalised 15 seconds and then I had a crash in the last race when another rider came into me at turn 9,” Jack commented.
