Phelan’s weekend of racing didn’t start as planned with the Dealership Principal and owner being forced to return to the busy Mornington Kawasaki dealership on Friday, missing practise.
With no practice and only 1 qualifying session under his belt, Phelan put it all on the line on Saturday to record the fastest lap of the session, putting the Ninja ZX-10R on pole.
Saturday’s first race turned into a battle between Partridge and Phelan with Phelan taking the win in an incident filled race. Phelan’s Mornington Kawasaki team-mate and fellow Ninja ZX-10R pilot, Danny Moulton, finished 3rd. Unfortunately due to sickness, Moulton was forced to withdraw from further competition during the weekend but was very happy with the Ninja’s performance in the one race he entered.
Another strong performance by Phelan in the 2nd race resulted in the Ninja ZX-10R dominating the field and Phelan taking a lengthy victory. Race 3 was much of the same with Phelan leading from start to finish, resulting in a perfect points haul for the weekend with 3 wins from 3 starts.
Phelan also entered the Superbike class for extra tack time during the round and showed good speed against the higher spec Superbikes. He finished with a 3rd, 4th and 13th when a choice to run wet tyres proved not to be the best one on the rapidly drying circuit!
An excited John Phelan says, “I could not praise the Ninja ZX-10R enough for its flawless performance in these half wet half dry conditions. The traction control worked so well even in these race conditions and on an unpredictable surface. With the track how it is you either ride a ZX-10R, or follow one!"
“I’d like to tank my partner Tanya and children for their help and support in the freezing conditions. It’s not just difficult for us as riders but also the flag marshals, officials and friends and family. They all contribute to a successful weekend of racing.”
Mornington Kawasaki is also pleased to announce the addition of Brett Kitchin to its Pro Stock stable. Kitchin will race on board his new 2011 non ABS Ninja ZX-10R. Kawasaki wishes both Brett Kitchin and John Phelan all the best with their racing and look forward to Mornington Kawasaki recording more great results.
