Matt Walters, who also won the ASBK Prostock Championship this year, won 3 of the 4 races during the 1 day event to be crowned champion.
Kawasaki racer Phil Lovett also finished on the podium taking 3rd place on his Ninja ZX-10R. Kawasaki’s Sean Condon finished in 4th with Glynn Thomas just behind in 5th meaning the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R filled 4 of the top 5 positions at the event.
Walters set the fastest lap time in all four races as he went 1-1-1-2 to win the championship. When rain fell in the final race, Walters played it safe to ride the Ninja ZX-10R home in 2nd place on slick tyres.
A jubilant Matt Walters say’s, “It was an unreal weekend. It was great to have a smooth weekend where everything went perfectly. It feels great to win another championship on the Ninja ZX-10R. I’d like to give a big thanks to Kawasaki Australia, Rover Coaches, Dunlop tyres, Alpinestar boots, RST Leathers, Bell Helmets and my mum and dad and all at Kawasaki Connection for all of their support.”
The 2013 Australasian Superbike Championship marks Walters’ 3rd Australian road race title after claiming this year’s ASBK Prostock Championship and the 2010 ASBK Superstock 600 Championship.
Matt Walters also took to the track for an exhibition lap on board a Kawasaki prepared Ninja 300 race bike as a teaser for Speed TV and the press for the recently announced 2014 Australasian Superbike Championship FX300 Ninja Cup. With a lot of interest already being expressed in the new class, series organizers are confident the new class will be a success.
Matt Walters now looks forward to shifting his attentions to an old love- dirt track racing. The multiple Australian dirt and long track champion has been invited to compete alongside world class riders at the 2014 Troy Bayliss Classic at Taree in January.
