Round 5 was held on Saturday and consisted of a 2.5 hour cross country moto through the open bush and sandy soil of Wanbi, South Australia. Mitch established his authority in the J2 class, winning more than 2 minutes ahead of his closest rival. Meanwhile, twin brother Josh Brierley was able to ride his KX250F into 2nd place in the J3 class.
In the under 19’s category, Lyndon turned an average mid-pack start into 1st place with a comfy 4.5 minute lead until he suffered an issue which ruled him out of the race. Nonetheless, Lyndon scored a 9th place outright after the fifth round on his KX250F. “It was awesome to be up there with Australia's best riders” said Lyndon. “The track was all sand and quite deep for a lot of it. It cut up pretty rough, but I was having an absolute ball”!
Round 6 was held on the next day and consisted of sprints. Mitch Brierley proved to be untouchable after the 4 sprint laps, claiming his second win for the weekend on his KX85II and extending his lead in the J2 championship. “My KX85II was faultless on the weekend and with Bikebiz and all of my other supporters I am hoping to stay on the podium for the rest of the year”.
Faultless riding enabled Josh Brierley to also extend his championship lead in the J3 class as he took 1st place in the sprint round. Josh said, “I am really happy with my results after the weekend. I am going to focus on preparing for the next round of the Australian Off Road Championship and then the Hattah Desert race which is our favourite race of the year”!
Lyndon Snodgrass adhered to the sandy track in the fast paced sprints and managed to place his KX250F on the top step of the podium. “I knew I had the speed, it was just a matter of putting some consistent times down and staying on the bike”! Lyndon rode away from the weekend in 3rd position on the under 19’s championship leader board.
Kawasaki Motors Australia would like to thank Bikebiz Kawasaki for supporting both Mitch and Josh Brierley as well as Hands On Kawasaki who have assisted Lyndon Snodgrass throughout the year. Both of these Kawasaki dealerships have provided their expertise in maintaining each rider's respective Kawasaki racing bike.
Rounds 7 & 8 of the Australian Off Road Championship will consist of two Enduro races on the same weekend in Aratula, QLD on Saturday 20th of June.
