“What an amazing series – I can’t believe it. It’s been a tough one and I didn’t expect to be at the top of the points at the end of it. It’s been a very quick learning process but looking forward to learning more and getting better”
Kawasaki Supported SuperCross Racer Brad West took 1st place overall in the 85cc Australian SX Championship this weekend at the renowned Aus X Open which was held this year at the Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney Olympic Park. Brad was riding a Kawasaki KX-85 (link).
There were plenty of hurdles that came along with the competition; the wet weather during practice; the large stutters that were challenging to speed through on a smaller bike and the new event start grid that made it difficult to get a perfect take-off. None of these stopped Brad from bringing his best performance to the race and securing an overall 1st place for the National 85cc SX Title. Brad was also awarded the Peter Melton Trophy for the night, a Junior Championship award.
Brad admits to letting some silly mistakes distract him during the night, however still executed faster race times above other competitors. His determination, focus and discipline in training helped him take home a well-deserved 1st place in National Rankings.
“I’ve learned a lot this year” said Brad. It has been his first year competing in Supercross and he was taken aback by the concentration and time that it took to master any track. “My goal was always to stay fit and healthy, learning every time I was on the track”.
“Big thankyou to Kawasaki Australia for supplying some great machines”
