Kawasaki-mounted independent Matt Walters has ridden to another deserved top 10 finish at Morgan Park's fourth round of the 2019 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK), scoring eighth overall in Queensland.

Walters was again well in the mix aboard the Matt Walters Racing Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR to deliver consistent performances. He qualified ninth on Saturday with a 1m13.673s set in Q2, placing him on the third row of the grid.

From there, Walters further improved, racing to eighth position in the opening 16-lap encounter and then crossing the finish-line ninth in race two. Those results earned him eighth for the weekend, matching his season-best to date.

"I was probably hoping for a little bit more in terms of the result," Walters admitted. "Since we had done a fair bit of testing at Morgan Park, I was confident we could get a better finish, but it didn't come this weekend."

Walters has now moved to seventh in the championship standings following four of seven rounds, climbing two positions on the weekend as leading privateer team in the series.

"We managed to get some good points though and stayed in the hunt, so I was able to make up some positions in the championship and that was good for us," he added. "Now we'll move on to Winton and look to finish strongly! I'm definitely happy with the way it all went here though and I'm still going into the final few rounds full of confidence.

"We've been around eighth and ninth for a while now, so it would be nice to try and move up because my goal is to get into the top five. I feel that's where we should be, so I will training really hard over the next few months."

An uncharacteristic bout of arm-pump affected Walters at the tight and technical Warwick-based venue over the weekend, which he will be looking into further between now and round five.

"I'll have to look into some arm-pump issues that I hadn't had for a few years," he explained. "It was a bit strange, because it was just in one arm and I didn't have it in testing - it only came during the races. I'll be looking into that."

The next stop on the 2019 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) calendar will be the fifth round at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria, scheduled for 6-8 September.
