Brad & Jason West ventured over the ocean to the USA to live and train for 4 weeks solid, based themselves at Menefee in California. The West brothers partnered with The W training facility Gym for our off bike training. Each morning they drove to every practice track possible where every pro and team was going to and trained each day until lunch time then headed to the gym every afternoon. Practice tracks are a little different in the USA, everybody is on the track at once training and doing sprint laps from 65cc - 450 cc.
Westy Brothers trained at – Glen Helen, Pala (Fox race way), Perris, Milestone, Cahuilla Creek MX.
After 3 weeks of training they ventured to Mammoth mountain for the racing, the format was Jason raced the first few days then Brad was towards the end of the week. Jason practiced very well he was around 4th fastest in practice times. Racing was the next day, he struggled with his is starts every ride being off concrete that he was not familiar with, but gained valuable experience ready for more racing in Australia.
Brad was entered into 4 classes school boy 2, 250B, 250 B/C and 450B. School boy class they had some engine problems with a valve burnt out, luckily Mitch Payton had spare engine in trailer ready to go as the team were pitting with him all week. The heat race went well against very stacked class with all the big hitters. Brad managed a 7th place in the heat, which transferred him straight to the main event. In the main event he started well and was 3rd around the first corner until he then got pushed back to 10th on 2nd corner before having an off and retiring from the race.
Along the way Brad managed to secure some very good sponsorship with Monster Energy coming on board assisting brad’s racing for future to come!
