8th October 2015, Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, Barcelona, Catalunya this is the backdrop for the worldwide launch of the all-new 2016 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. Let’s take a look at how the event unfolded.
The monolithic entrance provides a dramatic frame for the looming banners inviting you to “Get Closer” as we walk up the front stairs of Teatre Nacional de Catalunya.
Members of the Kawasaki World Superbike Racing Team are smiling as we enter the venue, adding to the level of anticipation for the day ahead.
The inside of the venue is awash with Kawasaki Lime green and contrasting black. The tunes are being pumped out by the DJ and the Monster Energy girls are working the crowd and creating photo opportunities.
The Kawasaki details in the dramatic entrance environment have set the tone for the day; the carpets are Kawasaki colours, the water in the flowers is lime green, the Kawasaki lime green pens have been precisely laid out next to the Kawasaki napkins and Kawasaki coasters.
Hanging from the very high ceilings are a cascade of banners continuing to tease and taunt you to “Get Closer to the team”. Food and drinks are abundant, journalists from around the world are furiously writing, eating all the food, freely drinking and “accidently” placing all of the Kawasaki pens in their pockets. An air of anticipation is continuing to build.
We are escorted up the escalator to “Get Closer”. At the top we are greeted by the beautiful sight of Jonathan Rea’s and Tom Syke’s 2015 Championship winning Ninja ZX-10R motorcycles straddling the trophies won by the team through the season.
Into the presentation area and the drama continues; the lime green lights glow and our host for the day, Martin Lambert – Press and PR Manager Kawasaki Motors Europe is introduced.
The reason we are all gathered here today is swiftly brought into the room. The 2016 Ninja ZX-10R is rolled into the presentation space in a KRT transport road case. Smoke machine fire, music volume increases and the new 2016 Ninja ZX-10R is placed onto the focal point turntable.
The background video is filled with inspiring Kawasaki footage, roaring engine sounds and the voice over speaks of the proud and strong Kawasaki racing heritage.
The 2016 Ninja ZX-10R has been developed with a close collaboration of the Kawasaki Racing Team and Kawasaki Heavy Industries. The two teams working side by side throughout the previous seasons to continue the improvement of the Ninja ZX-10R.
Marcel Duinker (KRT, Crew Chief Tom Sykes), Tom Sykes (Rider), Pere Riba (KRT, Crew Chief Jonathan Rea), Jonathan Rea (Rider) and Yoshimoto Matsuda (KHI Project Leader) have worked tirelessly to fulfil the want list for the new Ninja ZX-10R.
Tom Syke’s had a wish for this new motorcycle; “A lighter inertia bike – lighter crankshaft and primary gear…myself and Marcel said we need a lighter inertia engine”
The crankshaft moment of inertia in the 2016 Ninja ZX-10R is reduced by 20%.
The final words from KHI Project Leader, Matsuda-san:
- “A fast bike on track is an easy bike to ride”
- “The new Ninja ZX-10R will excite our customers on the street too”
