Luke Clout and the Empire Kawasaki Team experienced a rollercoaster of racing emotions at Round 7 of the ProMX Championship, held at MX Farm, QLD on Sunday 11th August. After leading laps, challenging for wins and a 2nd place in the opening MX1 Moto, Clout was back where he belongs at the front of the field on his KX450.
The day would start strong for Clout as he posted the 3rd fastest time in both MX1 Qualifying and the SuperPole session, finding his trademark speed and flow early on the MX Farm track.
In Moto1, Clout rocketed out of the gate and pushed to the lead position early, however a heavily watered track would result in a small tip over at the end of lap 1. Remounting quickly, Clout would spend the next 20 minutes charging back from 5th position and in the closing laps, mount a charge to win the Moto from 2nd position. Falling just short at the chequered flag, an incredible ride set up the potential for Overall victory in Moto 2.
As the gate dropped in Moto 2, Clout would be shuffled back in the opening turns and emerge inside the top ten placings. Charging up to 4th and maintaining solid track position, Clout was sitting in 3rd overall, before a mistake would see him drop back to 6th. Once again remounting to charge back to 5th position at the chequered flag, Clout would tie on points for 3rd Overall, ultimately finishing in 4th Overall for Round 7.
“I’m frustrated that I left both a race win and overall podium on the track today”, said Clout.
“The positives are we had race winning speed and I felt great on my KX450. I’m excited we only have a few days and then we are onto the Final Round at QMP, I feel a win and more podiums are coming to finish off ProMX”, concluded Clout.
Reid Taylor entered Round 7 suffering with nausea and dizziness throughout the week and after consulting with the Team, it was decided that it is in Reid’s best interests to sit out of racing Round 7 and seek further medical consultations before QMP next weekend for the Final Round of the Championship.
Tyson Cherry, Owner of Empire Kawasaki commented;
“We have a duty of care to Reid as a member of the Team and we decided he needed to rest and sit out Round 7. He is awaiting more information from his Doctors and we look forward to hopefully seeing him back on the bike at QMP for the Final Round of ProMX”.
The Empire Kawasaki Team now make the journey to Queensland Moto Park (QMP) for the Final Round of the ProMX Championship, taking place on the 17th and 18th August.
