Empire Kawasaki Off-Road Team rider, Will Price, has enjoyed a strong start to the 2023 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) in Mendooran, NSW, with two fourth-place results in the competitive E1 category.
Despite focusing most of his pre-season preparation on more hard-pack venues, Price took the fight to the E1 front-runners in the sandy, rough, whooped-out sprint tests he met at the season-opener.
The Victorian and his 2023 Kawasaki KX250X would finish each of the two days of racing with consistent P4 results in his class, and with a comfortable buffer over the fifth-placed rider on both days.
“It was a good start to the season, but a bit challenging," Price said. "The high speed whooped out, sand terrain was certainly interesting when you’re hanging off the back of the KX250!
“I hadn’t done a huge amount of sand riding in the lead-up to the event, as we’d been focusing on the enduro and a couple of state series rounds that are hard-pack, so we were a bit under-done coming into this weekend. We’re looking to build throughout the year and hopefully fight it out for the podium.”
In the E2 class, supported rider Matt Waters and his 2023 Kawasaki KX450 finished in 15th position after Saturday’s wide-open, sandy opening round, then improved to 13th when the sprint circuits got tighter and more technical on Sunday.
Rounds three and four of the AORC will be held at Queensland Moto Park from 22-23 April.
