Empire Kawasaki’s Jai Constantinou and Haruki Yokoyama have finished the 2022 Australian Supercross SX2 Championship in 8th and 12th overall respectively after a challenging outing at the final round in Wagga Wagga, NSW.
Constantinou qualified 9th and finished his heat with a top-five result aboard his Kawasaki KX250.
Throughout both of the two-race finals, the Victorian found himself caught in mid-pack battles as he rode to a P9 and P10 result, which saw him finish the evening in ninth overall.
"They were super-tough conditions tonight," Constantinou said. "I felt like the heat race was promising, but then in the finals was happy to get through them safely."
"It was hard out there with the track breaking down and the dust. I'm happy, we learned a lot this season, and it was good to keep progressing in supercross."
Meanwhile, Yokoyama did not find his rhythm around the outdoor supercross circuit, qualifying in 11th and finishing his heat in seventh.
After a P10 result in the opening final, Yokoyama charged to one of his trademark holeshots in the second final but crashed heavily on the second lap and was forced to DNF. Yokoyama's results saw him finish the last round of the year in 12th overall.
"Tonight didn't go as I wanted it," Yokoyama said. "My suspension was closer to a motocross setting, and it didn't suit this track tonight."
"I struggled through the whoops a lot. I still have to learn a lot, but it wasn't too bad, and I hope to be back for next year in the supercross series again."
