Defending national MXW champion Meghan Rutledge has proven she’s still got what it takes by finishing fourth overall in a surprise comeback appearance for the final round of the Australian ProMX Championship at Coolum.
While on a family holiday, the four-time national champion made a last-minute decision to pull on the helmet for the third round of the Women's championship and impressed many with her speed and consistency.
After lodging a third-fastest time in qualifying, Rutledge and her Kawasaki KX250 raced to a brace of fourth-place finishes in the two motos, to end up level on points with third-placed Madison Brown.
However, with the countback system, Meg ultimately finished fourth overall for the weekend. The one-off appearance also means the 2018 champion and recent mum finished the 2022 series in 13th position!
“It was a really great weekend. I was still the reigning Australian women’s champion coming into the season and when I heard the final round was at Coolum while we were on a family holiday, I thought ‘why not give it a go and prove to myself that I still have it?’ I really had no expectations coming in, so to leave Coolum with such a good result was quite unexpected! If I was a bit fitter and had more bike time I could’ve battled a little more, but I had a wonderful weekend.”
Rutledge also contested a round of the Australian Off-Road Championship at Mendooran, NSW, last month and impressed many by featuring on the podium in a rare off-road appearance.
