Empire Kawasaki riders will take the positive angles out of a mixed outing at the third round of the 2022 Australian ProMX Championship in Wodonga, Victoria.
In the MX1 class, Jayden Rykers recovered from an opening lap crash in the first moto to finish the race 11th.
The second moto – being split into two parts with Olympic style point-scoring - saw the Western Australian finish an improved P6 in the opening bout, followed by ninth in the second encounter.
Rykers concluded the round eighth overall with a 11-7 scorecard, remaining seventh in the ProMX standings.
“First time we visited Wodonga, so that was fresh for me,” Rykers explained. “The first moto I tried to not be so patient in the early laps with a good start and I got caught off guard and washed-out the front. The first back-to-back moto was a little bit of my old self, so that was the one positive I could pull from today!”
In the MX2 category, consistent riding by Jai Constantinou saw him finish seventh overall, courtesy of 8-7 finishes.
“We made some improvements from the last round, so we are taking steps in the right direction,” Constantinou stated. “Not the weekend we wanted, but still plenty of positives to take away for me today.”
Meanwhile, Japanese charger Haruki Yokoyama finished the first MX2 moto at Wodonga in seventh position, before a challenging second race saw him cross the line 15th. Yokoyama completed the round 12th overall.
“First moto, I had a really good jump, but I overshot the first turn,” Yokoyama reflected. “The track was really challenging, but finished seventh after a crash which wasn’t too bad. I had a first turn crash in the second moto that bent the bike a little bit, then managed to salvage 15th and we will keep pushing.”
The fourth round of the Australian ProMX Championship will be contested at Gillman, SA, on Sunday, 29th May, where the Empire Kawasaki team will continue its charge towards the front of the field.
