Fresh from a round win in the Pro-Stock class in the Australian Superbike Championship at Sydney Motorsport Park earlier this month, Walters continued his surge of form at the 4th round of the Australian FX-Superbike Championship in QLD. Recovering quickly from two DNF’s in earlier AFX rounds, Walters showed phenomenal speed onboard his Ninja, stringing together three solid race results (3-1-2) to claim 2nd overall in the Superbike class in QLD.
Walters was unfortunate to miss out on the overall for the day, beaten in race three by just .314 seconds by eventual winner Broc Parkes after some very close racing.
Matt Walters was pleased with his results in QLD, saying, “We claimed back valuable championship points and kept it upright all weekend so I’m very happy. I’d really like to thank Rover Coaches, Dunlop and Kawasaki Australia and the entire Kawasaki Connection team for providing me with a Ninja ZX-10R as fast as it was on the weekend”.
Matt Walters sits in 4th place in the AFX championship, just 3 points shy of the top 3.
Kawasaki supported rider Sean Condon came away with 8-8-8 results for 7th overall for the round. Corey Snowsill rode very well on his Ninja ZX-10R to take 4th overall (5-4-7). Ben Burke could’ve finished inside the top 5 if not for a DNF in race 2. He finished with 6-DNF-6 results for 10th overall.
On the same weekend, Kawasaki’s Luke Burgess and Sophie Lovett competed in the 3rd round of the 2013 ASBK 250CC Production class championship at Broadford, Victoria.
Luke Burgess had to quickly overcome some mechanical issues in race 1 that resulted in a poor start. The defending champion finished with 9-4-2 results to take 4th overall for the round. He currently sits in 2nd place in the championship. The round was won by local rider Tom Bramich (1-11-1) on board his Ninja 250R and Brandon Demmery (Ninja 250R) took control of the series lead from Burgess with 2-1-9 results at Broadford.
15 year old Jack Baker, riding for QLD Kawasaki dealership, Crazy Dogs Kawasaki, came away with 4-10-4 results for 5th overall.
Kawasaki’s Sophie Lovett posted 1-1-1 results in the Women’s class to extend her series lead and finished in 7th overall for the round with 6-8-7 race results. She currently sits 5th overall in the series.
Matt Walters will join Luke Burgess and Sophie Lovett at the 7th round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Phillip Island, Victoria on 4-6 October where Walters will be racing to win the Pro-Stock class of the 2013 series, which he currently leads.
